1996 Sangiovese

This wine is an attractive medium red in colour. The bouquet shows intense dark plum/cherry characters, with floral and spice nuances, and a touch of earthiness.

The medium bodied palate is full of complex fruit and savoury flavours complemented by subtle oak, balanced by firm drying tannins characteristic of the variety.

Ideal for enjoying now, especially with Asian or Italian foods (gnocci with herbed tomato sauce and cheese, or spaghetti bolognese), this wine will also improve with 3–5 years in the cellar.

Coriole Vineyards was established by the Lloyd family in 1967 in hills overlooking the McLaren Vale wine region and Gulf St Vincent. Coriole remains today as a small family owned company specialising in Shiraz, but which has also been at the forefront of producing Sangiovese in Australia, and concentrating on slightly unusual varieties such as Chenin Blanc and Semillon which particularly suit the McLaren Vale region.
