The great Italian love affair that Coriole proprietor Mark Lloyd is having with Mediterranean grape varieties continues, and this is what he calls his serious rose for grown ups. The pale rose colour with a hint of brickish brown tells you immediately that this is something different. Not a sign of lolly sweetness from the dark and petulant Italian grape nebbiolo, though there's great flavour intensity in the restrained spikes of cherries and roses. It's bone dry, with lots of natural acidity and the hint of gripping tannins on the long back palate, which makes it perfect for shared platters on the grazing table over a long, long lunch.

Strangely, while the best nebbiolo traditionally comes from cool mountainous regions in northern Italy, this fruit has been sourced from the warm area of Langhorne Creek - but the smart results speak for themselves. If you're sick of sickly rose made from overcropped grenache, don't despair; this is a dry summer red wine like you've not tasted before. Screw cap.

The quick, gentle crush of the grapes means that nebbiolo's pronounced tannins are not a feature of this wine; its primary fruit characters reveal enticing floral aromas, wild strawberry, raspberry and peach flavours. Silky smooth texture, excellent balance, then a pleasing dry finish. Ideal with veal carpaccio.
