“No fiddling about here. Purple, stony, floral, spicy, dark chocolate almond. Medium-bodied, distinctly ‘mineral’ feel here, good fruit, but not specifically fruity, with a raft of other more savoury flavours in the mix. Finish is gently chalky in tannin, with an ‘inky’ aftertaste. Wonderful. Very highly recommended. 93 points"

Tasting Notes
Abundant aromas of ripe, red cherries, sage flower, berry bramble and Redskin lolly. The alluring colour is reminiscent of cherry and juicy red berries. A wonderfully fruit forward, easy drinking wine with a velvety, round palate, fine, supple tannins and a delicate, lingering finish.
The grape variety Nero d’Avola was originally grown in southern Sicily and suits warm climates. Coriole produces a fruit forward, early drinking style. The 2016 vintage received 4 trophies at the Alterna ve Varie es Wine Show, taking out Best Nero, Best Italian, Best Red and Best Wine of Show! This is Coriole’s 5th commercial release.
Vineyard Notes
The winter and spring of 2016 was one of the wettest on record which delayed flowering. By early summer we had some periods of good warm weather which encouraged growth but vintage was still looking a month behind 2016 and more in line with an old-fashioned vintage. Several rainfall events in January further delayed vintage and had the vineyard team working hard. Thankfully the warm and dry weather returned and the harvest proceeded at a leisurely and relaxed pace allowing a long ripening time for maximum flavour development. The wines look outstanding.
Winemaker Notes
Now sourced from three vineyards, two at Coriole and one at the base of the foothills, the Nero vines have really established themselves. The fruit is handpicked and then destemmed resulting in whole berries. These are then cold soaked for 4 days before we allow them to come back to temperature and begin ferment naturally. The ‘must’ is over seeded with yeasts chosen to highlight the natural aromatics on the variety. A brief spell in seasoned oak, then bottled at about 6 months of age. Drink young with or without food, try chilling it in summer.
Food Pairing Notes
Simple and tasty foods such as a charcuterie plate, Napoli style pizza or some porcini arancini balls. This wine can be enjoyed day or night, rain or shine.
