2024-rubato-reserve-fiano
2024 Rubato Reserve Fiano

The grape variety Fiano originates from a province near Campania, east of Naples. Fiano was selected by Coriole when looking for a new southern Italian variety to grow in McLaren Vale, with the first vineyard planted in 2001. The first Australian Fiano was released by Coriole from the 2005 vintage. Perfectly suited to our climate, Fiano is now the largest growing whites category in McLaren Vale. In 2018 we first produced our Rubato Fiano, which celebrates Fiano's true textural qualities.

The term rubato may be familiar to music lovers. It means to play freely, or with abandon... not scared to stray from the normally trodden path.

Halliday Wine Companion's Top 100 Wines of 2025

JamesSuckling.com's Top 100 Australian Wines of 2025

"A deeply fruited and textural iteration this year, while also possessing considerable verve and effortlessness. Golden delicious, nashi pear, fresh fennel seeds and fronds, green almond, lime pith, mandarin oil and a green cardamom/fenugreek leaf spice note. It’s saline and lightly chewy, working in neat concert with the fruit intensity that swells on the mid-palate, keen acidity joining the fray to close out, the flavours lingering indelibly. It’s also a wine that builds with interest over a couple of days and as the temperature climbs. It’s a beacon for the variety’s elevated potential here. Absolutely top drawer. 97 points"
Marcus Ellis, Wine Companion

"Peach, perfume, pistachio, mint/fennel, hard lemon sweets dusted with icing sugar. It’s juicy, apple and lime, fine powdery texture, balanced acidity, a citrus cut through marzipan richness, raw almond and green herbs, with a cool finish of superb length. Outstanding. A high-water mark for this variety. 96 points"
Gary Walsh, The Winefront

"A classic nose of golden baked apples and peach skin. Some lemon curd and galangal root. A hint of lemon balm too. A slinky shape where acidity stretches the palate and fruit circles upon nectarine and nashi pear. It’s slippery and hints at a slight salinity before showing its lemon pith and almond shell finish. Fiano is a wine that really can do no wrong; here it has been carefully handled and shines as the fine wine it is. Drink now–2030. 95 points"
Shanteh Wale, The Vintage Journal

"Deep and complex with aromas of lemon pith, pistachios, sea salt and Asian pears. The palate is medium-bodied and textural with mineral-driven notes of nectarines, grapefruit, oyster shells, fennel and quince. Quite textural with a phenolic grip that adds to the layers of complexity. Drink or hold. 95 points"
JamesSuckling.com

"Medium lemon in colour. Savoury notes of lemon pith, green apple, crushed rock, sourdough and honey entice you in. The palate is textural, waxy and chewy with an undertow of tension, that tempers the richness. It's full-bodied and flavoursome. Clever winemaking adds a savoury sheath to this lovely wine. 93 points"
Gabrielle Poy, The Real Review
