Nero d'Avola

The grape variety Nero d'Avola was originally selected in southern Sicily and suits warm climates. Coriole produces a fruit forward, early drinking style. This 2014 vintage is Coriole's third bottling and second commercial release.

Tasting Brief

A bright nose of sweet wildberries, sage flowers and aniseed.

The palate is light to medium bodied with juicy plum and cherry. Fresh and clean with silky tannins and balanced acidity. Highly drinkable as a young wine.

2017. "Coriole seem to have really got a handle on this grape. So familiar with it, it would appear, that they feel comfortable enough to drop the d’Avola. Well, I guess it’s Nero d’McLaren, isn’t it? Floral, aniseed, blackberry pastille, a little spice and iron. Medium bodied, juicy and fresh, basil perfume, light grip of tannin, lots of energy, and a lively spicy finish. Such a delightful, fun and bouncy wine: the wine equivalent of nude trampolining. 92 or 93. Can’t decide. Whatever. Boing!" - Winefront

2016. 95 Points. Coriole has long championed Italian grape varieties with Nero d'Avola turning into one of its stars. Why? It's suited to the region's warm, dry climes. This is a beauty with a core of juicy red fruits, especially raspberry, with a whisper of Mediterranean dried herbs, supple tannins, a lighter frame and a neat acid line keeping it so damn lively.  - James Halliday
