Singing, she sat secure. A recital
Sunday 8 January 2023 - 3pm - 5pm
American based soprano, Bethany Hill, returns home to South Australia and joins once more with friend, and renowned collaborative pianist, Penelope Cashman, to perform a recital of evocative and rarely heard art songs.
Singing, she sat secure showcases a wealth of English and Italian poetry through song, featuring music by Rachel Bruerville, Mirrie Hill, Rebecca Clarke, Florence Price, Pauline Viardot, Margaret Sutherland, Anne Cawrse, and more.
Bethany and Penelope look forward to welcoming you to the Top House at Coriole for this special recital.
In praise of To Music, a recital created and performed by Bethany Hill and Penelope Cashman, 2020:
“This recital of songs, all of which in some way reflect on the importance of music to a society restricted through lockdown to electronically mediated communication, brought the beauty and eloquence of the singing voice to us in the unique setting of the UKARIA concert hall."

“Their passion for art song shone through in their exploration of these songs of solace. Every aspect of their performance was carefully thought out: the personable presentation, the venue choice of the intimate and beautiful UKARIA Cultural Centre, and the way each set of songs flowed so naturally, from the text relationships to the key relationships."
