2022 The Soloist Single Vineyard Shiraz

2022 The Soloist Single Vineyard Shiraz

Shiraz is a great tradition in McLaren Vale, dating back to the 1850s. The first Coriole shiraz was bottled in 1970 with the first vines planted in 1919.

The Soloist is produced from a single Shiraz vineyard at Coriole – planted in 1967, on red-brown earth over limestone soil.

The intensity of the fruit is apparent from the day we crush it. 30% new French oak is used to showcase the depth of flavour these old vines show.

"From '60s estate vines planted to frugal soils over limestone; 30% new oak for 16 months. The art label has been replaced by the former simple, black-and-white one. The limestone yields a vigour to this, a mineral acid line, yet it is a powerful, fruitful expression. Dark plum, brined Kalamata olives, black cherry, ground anise, clove, the palate silky, saline, supple, the tannins ultrafine. A soloist indeed, an individual expression that drills down on the soil and geology variations of the estate vineyard, and a very fine virtuoso wine it is. This will be interesting with age, such is the limestone-gifted energy. 94+ points"
