2023 The Soloist Single Vineyard Shiraz

2023 The Soloist Single Vineyard Shiraz

Shiraz is a great tradition in McLaren Vale, dating back to the 1850s. The first Coriole shiraz was bottled in 1970 with the first vines planted in 1919.

The Soloist is produced from a single Shiraz vineyard at Coriole – planted in 1967, on red-brown earth over limestone soil.

The intensity of the fruit is apparent from the day we crush it. 30% new French oak is used to showcase the depth of flavour these old vines show.

"Off a block planted in '67 to shallow soils over limestone; 16 months in French oak, 30% new. New label here, part of an art series; this an impressionistic painting of an old vine by Tom Gleghorne. This is feted as one of the richer estate offerings, and it is indeed supple, textural and imbued with darker berries, black cherry and some vanilla and clove oak spicing. There’s also salted licorice, spiced plum and tapenade. Those deeper, darker notes are well balanced with swelling red fruits and sweet spices on the palate, incisive tannins and keen freshness on the close. 94 points"
