Negroamaro is native to the warm climate of Puglia in Southern Italy, where it is known for producing highly aromatic, deep coloured wine.

In contrast, our Negroamaro is light and bright. In McLaren Vale, Negroamaro is a late-ripening variety showcasing classic varietal perfume with a vibrant line of acid.

Negroamaro is a very distinctive variety in the winery with its spiced and Campari-like aromatics. Due to its low tannin and delicate aromatics profile we age this wine for only 10 months in old oak. We recommend serving chilled in the summer months.

“Winemaker Duncan Lloyd notes this Puglian variety is not always easy to manage in the heat. That's surprising, given its southern Italian origins, but then this is nothing like the dark, snarling examples so common there. Medium weight, fragrantly savoury, equipped with fine, silty and sandy tannins, this resonates with Italian aperitivo notes, dried orange peel, ground cinnamon and ginger, along with dried cherry and preserved plum. It’s another brilliant example of how grapes can produce compellingly different expressions in a new context, absent any attempt at historic caricature.
