Our Laneway Sangiovese vineyard was planted in the mid 90s in the foothills of Willunga. The soils are stony and free draining and the gully breezes provide a cooling influence. This wine spends an extended period of time on skins prior to pressing, resulting in an ethereal and vibrant wine of medium weight and great depth of flavour.
The single vineyard range is an initiative exploring and celebrating the geological, climatic and soil diversity of the district.
"This is the closest to good chianti yet, from grapes grown on these shores. I am not advocating emulation necessarily, but the semblance is striking. Red fruits. A pinosity and lightness of being, before the thirst-slaking flirt of sangiovese’s tannins, frisk and edge, kick in. Long limbed, strident and impeccably extracted. Acid, bright, too. Sour cherry, mint (in a good way), thyme, rosemary and wild red berries serve to convey an understated and confident versatility. Fine. 95 points"
