Sangiovese was pioneered in Australia by Coriole Vineyards. Our exploration of the variety has taken us to our first bottling of a single vineyard wine from our McLaren Flat site - resulting in a very different style that showcases the versatility of sangiovese and it's suitability to our climate.
"Made from MAT 6 and 7 clones, with five months on skins, before a year in barrel. Refined, elegant and expressly savoury, this has an effortlessness that characterises Duncan Lloyd’s making across the suite of Italian varieties. Sour cherry, dried cranberry, kirsch, faded rose, warm earth. It’s a vintage more about fine detail than stuffing, and that’s no loss. This is intensely, engagingly aromatic, mid-weight and a real joy to drink, with that long skin ageing drafting a finely assertive framework of tannins. Lovely. 96 points"

"Cherry, almond, fennel, dried flowers, sweet spices. It’s medium-bodied, a bright cranberry crunch to acidity, tannin is sure-footed, kind of dusty and lightly peppery, hazelnut , strawberry and liquorice, pink peppercorn and allspice closes out a finish of very good length. Shapely and energetic. It’s Sangiovese from a cooler vintage, and while it’s kind of fine-boned and not particularly varietal, it does offer excellent texture and plenty of drinking appeal. 94 points"
