The grape variety Nero d’Avola was originally grown in southern Sicily and thrives in a warm, Mediterranean climate, a very suitable variety for the McLaren Vale region. Coriole produces a fruit forward, youthful and vibrant early drinking style.
"Made with 15% whole bunch; neutral oak for six months. A warm year, yet a frisky release, with a wild-fruited energy. Sour black cherry, damson plum, tart raspberry, a layering of ground white pepper, dried thyme and bay laurel. It starts to lean into sarsaparilla/chinotto, still taut and coiled, but with bitter alpine herbs, bushland scents and a savoury cola note. The fragrance unlocks with air, but this needs a little time in bottle to swell the palate. The quality is there, though. 92+ points"
Marcus Ellis, Wine Companion
"Soft, dark fruits – think overripe strawberries, blood plums and Christmas cherries – make this wine exceptionally pleasant and easy-drinking. Bright acidity keeps it lively. Stylistically, this occupies a comfortable middle ground – deep red in colour, with higher alcohol that adds length and a velvety viscosity that ensures this ride is not a short one. Overall, a very enjoyable nero d’avola that means business – and one that would pair beautifully with cured meats."
