These wines comes from our vineyard in the foothills behind McLaren Flat, called Sandalwood — right near the border of the Adelaide Hills Wine Region. The vineyard is a steep, free-draining, rocky site that ripens typically later than the Coriole estate — a cooler site, influenced by the gully breezes each evening. 

2024 Sandalwood Grenache Gris Piquepoul - 96 points, Wine Companion
"From the Sandalwood vineyard in the McLaren Flat foothills. Approximately 45/40/15% grenache gris/picpoul/clairette, as hand picked into same bins. Co-fermented in concrete, then returned for 10 months' élevage. Intensely expressive, like a stroll through an orchard in blossom, then rolling into a complex melange of orchard fruits and a dizzying layering of pear, apple and stone fruit cultivars. Feels distinctly heirloom, rather than the usual suspects. There are also hints of spice, nutmeg and cinnamon. It’s textural, slippery but a little pithy, too, generous, cascading with flavour. Then all is refined by a pristinely natural acid line. It’s utterly delicious."

"Made from MAT 6 and 7 clones, with five months on skins, before a year in barrel. Refined, elegant and expressly savoury, this has an effortlessness that characterises Duncan Lloyd’s making across the suite of Italian varieties. Sour cherry, dried cranberry, kirsch, faded rose, warm earth. It’s a vintage more about fine detail than stuffing, and that’s no loss. This is intensely, engagingly aromatic, mid-weight and a real joy to drink, with that long skin ageing drafting a finely assertive framework of tannins. Lovely."
