We have three small bush vine vineyards on the Coriole estate with majority of our estate grown grenache going to the Grenache MourveĢdre Shiraz blend, Dancing Fig.
We like to reserve the best 2-3 barrels that display quintessential McLaren Vale grenache characters for this single bottling.
The soils naturally produce a savoury wine, so we use 20% whole bunch and soft extraction during fermentation to get more floral aromatics and prettiness.
"Estate bush-vine fruit, destemmed and open fermented, with 10% of the final blend spending three months on skins; six months in seasoned barrels. Musk and cinnamon, cherry and red plum, orange peel, raspberry and redcurrant gel, macerated strawberries, a little caraway and aniseed. A warmer year than the one prior, but not a bigger wine. Rather, it is perfumed and transparent, already lissom and engaging, the palate with a pleasing savoury tilt, tannins chalky and sandy. 95 points"
