The grape variety fiano originates from a province near Campania, east of Naples. Fiano was selected by Coriole when looking for a new southern Italian variety to grow in McLaren Vale, with the first vineyard planted in 2001. The first Australian fiano was released by Coriole from the 2005 vintage. Perfectly suited to our climate, fiano is now the largest growing whites category in McLaren Vale.
"If I were blunt enough to categorise some wineries as leaders, rather than followers, then Coriole would be in the former category. Green melon, grapefruit, aniseed, chamomile, a slight but pleasant smokiness. It’s fleshy, pulpy, a little waxy, texture is grainy and powdery, ripe lemon and raw almond, a little green herb perfume, balanced acidity, with a nutty finish of excellent length. Varietal and very nice. And on the nice scale, this does very well indeed. 94 points"

"Rainier cherries, peach and cantaloupe. There is a springtime posy of flowers and the warm sunshine of morning. A slight hint of musk melon. It’s again generous on the palate with that musk and honeysuckle coming through, a note of candied ginger and nutmeg. Plenty of layers to keep your palate occupied and copious options for pairing, from stretchy yellow cheeses through to fish pie. Drink now–2028. 91 points"
