2020 Negroamaro

2020 Negroamaro
2020 Negroamaro

A fragrant and juicy wine showing true amaro character.

Negroamaro is a fairly new variety for Coriole, and has shown itself to be quite a light, fragrant, medium-bodied red from McLaren Vale. The name Negroamaro translates to "black and bitter" but this certainly doesn't describe the wine - while it does have some lovely amaro bitter herb like characters, it's very fragrant with soft tannin.

With great depth of flavour, this interesting wine has an attractive complexity with flavours ranging from those herbal bitter elements to floral lavender and rose characters.

On a hot day, Negroamaro could enjoy half an hour in the fridge to slightly chill the wine to cellar temperature.

"Terrifically moreish, here's an Italian worth breaking bread with. A wonderfully expressive wine.
Beautiful scents early with a hint of twiggy things. Lovely cherry and red plum fruits swarm the mouth. Screaming for food, some textural interest nods politely on the way through. Seductive spices march on and sit long. Great drinking and one to file in the "give me more" category."

Wine Profile
Production Notes
Negroamaro originates on the heal of Southern Italy and we thought it would be a great fit for the McLaren Vale region. The vineyard is planted in the stony foothills of Willunga that in 2017 produced a small crop of highly perfumed fruit. Open fermentation and hand plunging have produced a wine loaded with rose petal, sweet herbs and spice.
Food Pairing Notes
a great match for a plate of cured meats.
