Coriole Vineyards

2018 Estate Shiraz

2018 Estate Shiraz
2018 Estate Shiraz

Our new vintage of Estate Shiraz is from the stellar 2018 vintage. A slightly richer and denser wine than the 2017 whilst still retaining the hallmark Coriole elegance. Lifted red and black fruits, full yet soft mouth coating tannins and impressive depth. Approachable now or will cellar well for 10-15 years.

"Blackberry and blueberry, dark chocolate and hazelnuts, some spice and tar. It’s full-bodied, dense and flavoursome, packed silty tannin, a savoury ferrous kind of thing happening, even acidity, and a bright almost brambly finish. It’s a good release. Age-worthiness is assured. 93+ points"
Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

"Red-berry and some earthy, savory aromas here. The palate has undeniably fleshy, red-plum, licorice and chocolate flavors. Classic regional identity."

Tasting Notes
The 2017 Estate Shiraz beautifully demonstrates the mixture of fruitfulness and savoury elements. That our 50-year-old vineyards provide. The nose shows cherry, bitter chocolate and aniseed spice. The palate is bright and full bodied with succulent tannins and great concentration of fruit. A classic example from a superb vintage.
Vineyard Notes
The winter and spring of 2016 was one of the wettest on record which delayed flowering. By early summer we had some periods of good warm weather which encouraged growth, but vintage was still looking a month behind 2016 and more in line with an old-fashioned vintage. Several rainfall events in January further delayed vintage and had the vineyard team working hard. Thankfully the warm and dry weather returned, and the harvest proceeded at a leisurely and relaxed pace allowing a long ripening time for maximum flavour development. The wines look outstanding.
Winemaker Notes
The McLaren Vale grown grapes provide the fruit and floral perfume, while the cooler Hills bring the lemon/lime driven fresh acidity.
Food Pairing Notes
A classic dish for a classic wine - try with a rare roast beef, with a healthy level of marbling scotch fillet stays beautifully tender and juicy. Serve laden with pepper sauce and all the usual trimmings.
Other Notes
Shiraz has been Coriole’s principle variety and flagship wine since the first bottling in 1970. Coriole Shiraz is 100% Estate grown and the average vine age is 50 years old.
