2017 Galaxidia Shiraz

2017 Galaxidia Shiraz
2017 Galaxidia Shiraz

The Galaxidia vineyard was planted in 1998 after purchasing a neighbouring property. The vineyard is a north facing slope and typically produces wines of fragrance and intensity. This small bottling of a 100 dozen is from the best block on this vineyard. The nose shows lifted red fruits and sweet exotic spice. The palate is plush and full bodied but shows restraint and freshness. Flavours of dark plum and mulberry are beautifully balanced by a savoury, earthy richness.

"This single, Seaview sub-region plot has a dark-fruit nose with blood-plum, espresso and blackberry aromas, leading to a dense but fine array of tannins that carry a long and plush, blackberry finish. Stunning concentration and poise, really holding the finish in style. Drink or hold. 96 points"

Vineyard Notes
The winter and spring of 2016 was one of the wettest on record which delayed flowering. By early summer we had some periods of good warm weather which encouraged growth, but vintage was still looking a month behind 2016 and more in line with an old-fashioned vintage. Several rainfall events in January further delayed vintage and had the vineyard team working hard. Thankfully the warm and dry weather returned, and the harvest proceeded at a leisurely and relaxed pace allowing a long ripening time for maximum flavour development. The wines look outstanding.
Winemaker Notes
The Galaxidia vineyard is always recognisable for its very aromatic red fruited perfume. It jumps out of the glass and seduces with a very alluring perfume.
Food Pairing Notes
The perfect accompaniment to scotch fillet chargrilled with roasted root vegetables and mustard.
