Our Mary Kathleen is generally sourced from the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard planted in 1986 that sits just to the side of the cellar door.
"A shimmering ruby, this is exceptional warm climate cabernet. The usual varietal pointers of blackcurrant, bouquet garni, graphite and the motley crew of herb aside, the tannin management here skilled, linked with an after-carriage of coffee grind bite. Real detail to these tannins. Compact. A noble sheen married to compelling length. 96 points"
Ned Goodwin, James Halliday's Wine Companion
"Deep red/purple colour, with a tamarillo, toasty oak and rich black fruit bouquet and flavour, with toasty barrel undertones. Powerful, concentrated, long-lasting palate flavour. The tannins are abundant and grainy, adding excellent structure throughout the entire palate. A long-termer. 96 points"
Huon Hooke, The Real Review
"Intense small berried dark fruit, aniseed and cedar, tobacco and perfume. It’s medium-bodied, well-knit tannin and flavours of truffle and blackcurrant, dense and flavoursome, sweetly fruited, yet quite fine and ‘minerally’ too, nutty, dusty and long, with a nice bit of chew to the tannin as it goes. More than a little ‘claret’ running through its veins. 93+ points"
