"An estate vineyard planted in the prodigious year of 1969. Hand picked, de-stemmed and fermented open, with a 10-day maceration. Pressed to oak, presumably French (40% new), for 16 months. Bitter chocolate and coffee grind. Violet, anise and blueberry. Tapenade, too. Yet the tannins maketh the wine. This is old-vine shiraz in a region where grenache is usurping the excitement quotient. However, fine-grained tannins and the bow of gritty tension that they inculcate, make me reach for another glass. Long and penetrative. Forceful, ripe and uncannily savoury. 93 points"
Ned Goodwin, Halliday Wine Companion

"Deep, bright purple/red colour. Sweet plum-conserve aroma, very ripe fruit, and a floral element lifts it out of the mainstream. Fruit-sweet and succulent, with plenty of tannin in balance with the fragrant, aromatic fruit. It has an attractive combination of intensity and elegance. A stylish McLaren Vale shiraz."
