This two acre vineyard was planted in 1920 in the foothills of Willunga. The soils are deep, gravelly loams and this block always show great old vine complexity with a suppleness of Willunga soils. A very different wine to those produced from the Coriole estate. The nose shows blueberry and sage with hints of charcuterie. The palate is very soft and rich, beautifully framed by very fine tannin and finished by a floral rose lift.

"Black fruit, cinnamon and clove spice oak plays a part, but does not dominate. Cocoa, damp earthiness, even some dried flower and dried mint perfume. It’s full-bodied, a powerhouse of deep and damp earth and ferrous fruitiness, grainy and mineral feel to tannin, intense, quite fresh, and very long and saline. It’s the essence of old vine McLaren Vale Shiraz, and takes no prisoners. And given it’s Willunga, almost has an almond-like grip and sweetness. Outstanding old vine power here. Will power through the years. 95+ points"

"A centurion vineyard. Hand picked, open-top fermented and raised in French oak (15% new) for 18 months. From the warmer coastal flats, this is a corpulent wine of power and palate-staining levels of extract. Yet it is neither jammy, nor heavy nor overwrought. Mocha, cedar and coffee-bean oak. Damson plum, Asian medicine, tea leaf, clove and star anise. Dusty, rich and nicely pliant, with the oaky bow well nestled amidst the morass of fruit, spice and herb."
