2020 The Optimist Single Vineyard Chenin Blanc

Coriole Vineyards have produced Chenin Blanc in McLaren Vale since the late 1970s. Traditionally released as a fresh young style; Coriole Chenin Blanc has developed a loyal following with white wine drinkers across Australia.

"The Optimist" is a dry and savoury style that shows the great capacity of the variety to age. The wine is produced from a single vineyard planted at Coriole in 1977.

"A bright mid-yellow, suggestive of bottle development. Excellent aromas of lanolin, beeswax, fennel, tamarind and preserved citrus zest. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied, highly textural and energetic, with a chord of tension drawn across the long finish by mouthwatering freshness. A touch of quinine to conclude. Delicious drinking. Drink or hold. 93 points"

“Well balanced chenin in my mind. Pithy ripe grapefruit at front, perfect balance between acid and fruit weight, finishes long and crisp. Ideal summer afternoon quencher.”
Jeremy Prideaux, Principal Wine (reviewed via Young Gun of Wine)

“Touch of honeysuckle, citrus blossom, great contrast of ripe stone fruits, nashi pear and quite tense acidity. A pleasing, almost vegetal, funk, but it captures the spirit of Chenin blanc with that interest on the palate and cleansing acidity.”
Chris Ryan, Trader House Group (reviewed via Young Gun of Wine)
