2021 Aroona Shiraz

Our Aroona Vineyard is located in the Willunga foothills and produces a rich and soft style of shiraz.

The soils of the vineyards are the remnants of the Willunga range of hills that were at one point in history as high as the Himalayas!

The vineyard takes its name from the Aroona Valley in the Flinders Ranges - one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This is vibrant McLaren Vale Shiraz at its best. A lifted nose of sweet cherry, dark cocoa and aniseed with some glossy, dark fruits and a light touch of polished oak. The palate has a full and rich entry, with plenty of dark fruits, and floral notes. The tannins are fine and long and give the wine persistence and definition to balance the juicy fruit. Drink over the next five years.
Vineyard Notes
Our Aroona vineyard is located in the foothills of the Willunga range. The soils are a stony loam and contain the remnants of the mountains that were once as high as the Himalayas! The vines range in age from 99 to 25 years old. The vineyard typically produces aromatic wines with fine tannin and a full yet soft palate.
Winemaker Notes
We’re always excited by this vineyard as it shows great approachability even when the wines are relatively young. The tannin is typically full but fine and very well resolved. The wine is juicy and rich and shows the best of the fantastic 2017 vintage.
Food Pairing Notes
Great with grilled meats of all descriptions, perhaps a mixed grill, or a plate of cured meats. This is a shiraz that can also be enjoyed on its own.
Other Notes
The winter and spring of 2016 was one of the wettest on record which delayed flowering. By early summer we had some periods of good warm weather which encouraged growth but vintage was still looking a month behind 2016 and more in line with an old-fashioned vintage. Several rainfall events in January further delayed vintage and had the vineyard team working hard. Thankfully the warm and dry weather returned and the harvest proceeded at a leisurely and relaxed pace allowing a long ripening time for maximum flavour development. The wines look outstanding.
