2023 Dancing Fig

2023 Dancing Fig
2023 Dancing Fig

The grapes for this classic blend are sourced from several family vineyards throughout McLaren Vale. Mataro is grown near Willunga, in the south, on slate soil whereas the grenache and shiraz are grown on the northern end of the Coriole estate on terra rossa soils.

"Dancing Fig" refers to the many species of fig, fruiting and ornamental, that are grown at Coriole. The 2023 Dancing Fig is a Mataro (45%), Grenache (35%), Shiraz (20%) blend.

"45/35/20% mataro/grenache/shiraz. The dominant varieties are co-fermented, with shiraz blended later; 12 months in older oak. This has real immediate appeal, but it’s also got some cellar potential, with a tensioning seam of freshness holding everything in neat line. Wild raspberry, redcurrant jelly, rosehip, blackberry, peppery spicing and wild, scrubby herbs, the tannins food-friendly, the weight medium, the uses at table many. It’s a charming bistro wine, and that’s no slight! 92 points"
Marcus Ellis, Wine Companion

"Aromas of blackberries, dark cherries, bitter chocolate and cassis. The palate is plush with a medium-bodied mouthfeel, finely integrated tannins and bright acidity. Nicely weighted and focused. Drink now."
